How Does It Work?

Brazil

Mandarin trees are farmed in Brazil to produce mature red mandarin fruit for the fresh market, but Green Mandarin essential oil comes from the immature fruit that has been picked – or thinned – early on in the growing process. Thinning fruit trees is necessary because it creates the space for the remaining fruit to ripen and mature. Thinned fruit is far too green and sour to eat, and is usually forgotten.

Now, instead of letting this unripe mandarin go to waste, the thinned fruit is collected and used for doTERRA Green Mandarin essential oil. The essential oil is cold-pressed from the peel of the fruit and carries a unique aroma profile from that of the mature, or red, fruit.

Environmental Stewardship and Sustainable Sourcing

Previously, green mandarin was the unripe, waste by-product of the Mandarin tree, thinned and left behind to allow room for mature fruit to grow. However, today, the thinned mandarin is now being used to make doTERRA Green Mandarin essential oil. Here's how this has affected small-scale mandarin farmers in Brazil:

  • Farmers are compensated for what was once a waste by-product, giving them valuable off-season compensation
  • Since the compensation for the green mandarin covers many production costs, income from the ripe red mandarin fruit sold at the market can be profitable
  • This additional, reliable stream of income allows their business to be more sustainable than ever before

Primary Benefits

  • Emotionally uplifting and blissfully fragrant, Green Mandarin is unique among citrus oils and offers a wide variety of uses.
  • Adds refreshing flavour to water or your favourite dish.
